Due to the cost of Flash authoring software, I have been thinking about what effects could be done with Javascript. Because Macromedia controls Flash, not anyone can just create a Flash design. Some have created open source Flash compilers, but the software is far from perfect.
Javascript is very common. Anyone can add it their website and documentation is readily available.
